Saint Michael the Archangel isn't a saint, but rather he is an angel, and the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is what the title "Archangel" means, that he is above all the others in rank.
Saint Michael the Archangel is referenced in the Old Testament and has been part of Christian teachings since the earliest times. In Catholic writings and traditions he acts as the defender of the Church, and chief opponent of Satan; and assists souls at the hour of death.
St Michael. Saint Michael the Archangel is the patron saint of our parish. His feast day is celebrated on September 29th. He is regarded as the patron and protector of the Christian Church, because he remained faithful to God, and defeated Lucifer.
St Michael’s, O’Fallon is one of them, which is quite appropriate, given our close connection with Scott Air Force Base, since he is also the patron saint of the armed forces. The Church celebrates the feast of St Michael and All Angels, a.k.a. Michaelmas, on September 29th.

Church History. Saint Michael the Archangel was founded in 1953 to serve young families whose husbands were returning from World War II and others happy that good fortune was providing them an opportunity to purchase a single home they could afford.
According to the Encyclopedia of the Saints, Saint Michael the Archangel is one of the “three angels (with Gabriel and Raphael) whom the Church venerates by name. Michael’s name means “who is like God,” and in Christian lore he is one of the chief angels in heaven.
